The uniqueness of Bali island can be seen from
its cultural aspect such as the great number of
Hindu religious ceremonies. There are
incidental ceremonies like ; funeral,
cremation, marriage, and other those could not be
scheduled regularly, while on the other hand
Temple ceremony or local people call "Odalan" is
a temple's anniversary celebration, held
regularly according to the traditional Hindu
Calendar System, as following list.
During the temple's ceremony the the whole
villagers around it are totally involved since
its preparation few days or weeks before. Temple
ceremony commonly lasts for three days, and
greater one lasts for 11 days are even 42 days,
the good time to visit a temple during ceremony
is in afternoon time till evening where could be
seen young women with beautiful temple
offerings on their heads in long parade lead to
temple, mass praying, traditional dances or
performances and many other ritual activities.
To get into the temple during is ceremony days,
temple costume strictly should be put on while
for other days one should wear polite dress with
temple sash (often available at every front of the
temple) circled around waist. It all means to
show respect ness to God as well as to local
tradition which ensure a safe and enjoyable
visit.
Woman during menstruation period is not allowed
to enter the temple, she can stand before the
temple's entrance, since it is considered
impurity, and no one allowed to climb up on any
temple's wall or shrine or standing in front of
praying people for taking amice view or picture.
The following list of pura ( Pura means temple )
does not embrace all temple in Bali, owing
their abundance, hence almost no day without
religious ceremony that could be possible seen
in the country side of Bali.
